Portrait #5 – When Nicholas Al-Jeloo began his journey back to his homeland at the age of 18, having known only Australia, he could not have known that he would become a Doctor of Syriac Studies, nor that this once-unknown region would become his home. Today, he is one of the most renowned scholars in our community. In this lengthy interview, Dr Nicholas honours us by sharing his incredible journey, from Australia to the four corners of the Middle East and finally to Iraq.
The Return launches its series of video portraits! Because each returnee has their own story, their own cultural background and their own ambitions, it’s important to understand each person’s journey and perhaps draw inspiration from them to build the future of our communities. This series of portraits was made possible thanks to the financial support of l’Oeuvre d’Orient.
Special thanks to the Syriac Heritage Museum of Ankawa for hosting us during the interview.
