[Portrait] Rima returned from Germany and became an entrepreneur in Iraq

© Extract from Portrait #13: Rima / Apr. 2026 / J.Z.

Rima is an Assyrian from Kirkuk; she emigrated to Germany about fifteen years ago, where she began to rebuild her life. She recently decided to return to Iraq, where she opened a cosmetics store. A hard worker, she has managed to make it a success, and orders are now pouring in from all over the country. Rima shares her experience with us and explains the importance of maintaining a linguistic or physical connection to the homeland.

The Return launches its series of video portraits! Because each returnee has their own story, their own cultural background and their own ambitions, it’s important to understand each person’s journey and perhaps draw inspiration from them to build the future of our communities.

This series of portraits was made possible thanks to the financial support of l’Oeuvre d’Orient.
