Manar is part of our large Swedish diaspora. Born in Ankawa, he grew up in Stockholm before returning to settle in his hometown twelve years ago. He has worked primarily in the NGO sector and began learning Kurdish and Arabic in addition to his native language, Sureth, which he already knew. More recently, he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey and founded Fika House, one of the city’s best cafés, where he brings the Swedish tradition of “Fika”, a moment of relaxation during a busy day. Manar shares with us the challenges he has faced, like many returnees, as well as what he enjoys about life here.
