Marly’s family had moved to Sweden, like many migrants did in the 1990s. He was born there and has his earliest memories of the country, before his parents decided to move back to Iraq a few years after the regime fell in 2003. They were among the first people to come back to the country when it was still developing but not yet stable. His story is fascinating, as it answers the question many in the diaspora ask themselves: can our children adapt to returning to a country where they have never really lived?
The Return launches its series of video portraits! Because each returnee has their own story, their own cultural background and their own ambitions, it’s important to understand each person’s journey and perhaps draw inspiration from them to build the future of our communities.
