The Return has launched its first art exhibition at The Space in Ankawa, featuring the work of the young artist and architect Basma Bazzoee, originally from Mosul. The exhibition opened on 9 May and will continue for one month, welcoming visitors who would like to see the artwork and support local talents. The displayed pieces are also available for sale.
The opening ceremony attracted many visitors, including locals, returnees, and members of the Iraqi diaspora visiting the country. During the event, The Return highlighted the importance of supporting artists and youth initiatives, especially at a time when daily life has become very fast-paced and most social activities revolve around work, routines, or cafés.
Through this exhibition, The Return wanted to create a space where people can slow down for a moment and reconnect with art and creativity. These initiatives help show the beautiful and talented side of our community while also encouraging young artists to continue developing their work and sharing it with others.
For The Return and the members of The Space, bringing art into everyday life is important. Art remains a way for communities to express themselves, preserve culture, and create meaningful connections between people.
Basma Bazzoee has also contributed to one of The Return’s ambitious future projects by helping draft the concept of “The Hub” building project. Her exhibition will be the first of many future exhibitions and cultural activities hosted at The Space.
